Questions for Educational Setting (From the parent/carer’s point of view):
How does Banana moon know if children need extra help and what should I do if I think my child may have special educational needs or disabilities?
All staff at Banana moon have knowledge of supporting children by planning, observing and assessing children from the settling in sessions to ensure that each child’s learning is monitored from their interest.
How will Banana moon staff support my child?
Each child has a staff member that are supporting him/her (key person) the staff will be working with the child’s parent to plan activities and observe their learning progress. The staff work closely with parents and plan activities around parent and nursery observations weekly. In addition, our management staff are also involved in all children’s progress by checking, observing and providing different opportunities for parents /carers to discuss with them from when the child starts our nursery by using different documents and attending further trainings to support children more. Our manager & the deputy have a deep understanding of using the new learning audit tool (Children learning and wellbeing audit) to assess children’s wellbeing and learning development. This has helped us to support parents in different ways, such as; attendance, speech & language, health & safety.
At Banana moon, our special education needs coordinator has attended training on how to support children in early years till school age, while all staff understand how to prevent children from harm by providing early intervention through other agencies such as health visitor who has been assessing children that have turned 2 years and recommended support for them in different categories .
How will the curriculum be matched to my child’s needs?
Banana moon day nursery Crawley monitor the child’s progress by planning activities around what your child likes and if our observations show that your child is below his/her age group, we inform parent and also share with our local support workers from children and family services to ensure best outcomes for the child. From our next steps we provide fun and stimulating activities centred around the child’s interest.
How is the decision made about support we are giving to all children at Banana moon?
At Banana moon, we involve parents/ carers in their child’s learning journey from the first day that child start. Parents will tell us what their child can do at home and suggest any areas they are worried about. This information helps us to plan activities that will develop the children’s learning. On top of this, we review the child’s progress, sharing with parents potential next steps and areas for development.
